NOTES ON TAXONOMY AND BIOLOGY: Achlysiella species differ from Radopholus spp. in having sedentary swollen females producing a gelatinous matrix containing eggs, but no specialized nurse cells in the roots of plant hosts.
GEOGRAPHICAL DISTRIBUTION: Mauritius and New Guinea.
HOSTS: Sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) and Saccharum spp.
CROP LOSSES: No information available.
MEANS OF MOVEMENT AND DISPERSAL: Through root material and soil debris.
RATING: (L) Achlysiella species share biological characteristics with migratory and sedentary endoparasitic nematodes. These biological peculiarities result in potential severe plant damage similar to Nacobbus species. A low priority rating was given to this nematode because its distribution is limited and economic damage caused by this nematode is not well documented.
