Yellow perch

The yellow perch has been introduced into Nebraska, intentionally stocked as a food fish and for sportfishing. Some of the earliest introductions were carried out by the U.S. Fish Commission during the late 1800s. In 1873, Livingston Stone of the Fish Commission attempted to transport Yellow perch taken from a Vermont river to California, but the train car carrying the 110 Yellow perch, and many other species, was lost when a bridge collapsed crossing the Elkhorn River in Nebraska.
Yellow perch compete with trout for food and likely prey on young trout.
