Introduction M. graminicola is a common species in the tropics and subtropics
where in infects numerous grasses including rice. It is a facultative,
meiotic parthenogen, with a haploid chromosome number of 18.
Classification: Enzyme phenotypes cluster M. graminicola with M. graminis.
DNA sequence of the ITS region suggests a large genetic distance when compared
to M. hapla, M. mayaguensis, M. chitwoodi, and the three
major species.
Morphological Identification: The tail tip of the second stage juvenile tapers to a long, fine point
with a long hyaline region.
