The Society of Nematologists is an international organization formed to
advance the science of nematology in both its fundamental and economic
aspects. To serve this purpose, the Society of Nematologists acts as an
agency for the exchange of information, holds regular meetings, and promotes
and extends knowledge in all phases of nematology. The Society operates
on a nonprofit basis exclusively for the accomplishment of these educational
and scientific goals.

Heritage:
The Society of Nematologists was organized in 1961. Since its inception,
programs have been initiated in accordance with society goals. The first
national
meeting was held in Corvallis, Oregon, in 1962 with a subsequent meeting
held each year in the U.S. or Canada. In 1969 the Society of Nematologists
began publishing the Journal
of Nematology, the official journal of the society. To recognize
outstanding individual accomplishments in the field of nematology, Honorary
Member and Best Student
Paper awards were initiated in 1968 and the Novartis
Crop Protection and Best
Economic Nematology Paper awards in 1981. The Society of Nematologists
has endeavored to meet the needs of individuals in academic institutions,
research, governmental agencies and industry for over 20 years and will
continue in this pursuit.
