Distribution:
Most of Canada and Northern U.S.

Origin:
Eastern Canada and Northeastern U.S. as far west as Minnesota

Characteristics: 
Olive-green to dark brown on back, lighter on sides and silvery white on underside, prefers cold, well-oxygenated water

Impacts:
They compete for food with native fish species

Management: 
Brook Trout are managed as a sport fish in Nebraska

Since the late 1800s, brook trout have been introduced successfully outside their native range. Introductions have been made into Brown County, a pond north of Omaha, the North Platte drainage, Hat Creek, White River, West Fork Big Blue, and the Elkhorn River in Nebraska.
