Distribution:
Believed to be wherever you find honey bees.

Common Characteristics:
A very small mite found in the tracheal system of adult bees, they like to feed on the haemolylmph (blood) of the insects. It doesn’t do any known major damage except for the shorting of the bee’s life which can reduce yield if the infestation is large enough.

Management:
Some British and American bees have shown some resistance. Acaricides have been tested, and a formic acid under the name apicure has been approved for use.
