This workshop was designed for nematologists with limited experience in molecular biology. The workshop covered both the theory behind DNA isolation protocols and analytical techniques. Hands-on laboratory exercises included isolation of DNA from individual nematodes, amplification of diagnostic markers by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), diagnostic restriction enzyme cleavage, and analysis of PCR and restriction enzyme-cleaved DNA by gel electrophoresis. Workshop organizers were Bradley Hyman, University of California, Riverside, and Thomas Powers, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The workshop was held on the campus of the University of Arizona.
